- Which barcode do I need?
- EAN-13 for products in retail, in your own shop and on Amazon in Europe; UPC-A for selling in the USA and Canada. Code 128 for anything internal: storage bins, item numbers (SKU), delivery notes and shipping labels — it takes letters as well.
- Where do I get an EAN number?
- From GS1 — GS1 Austria in Austria, GS1 Germany in Germany, GS1 UK in the United Kingdom. They give you your company prefix, from which you assign the numbers of your products. Retailers and Amazon check whether an EAN is registered; this tool only draws the code for a number you already have.
- What is the check digit?
- The last digit of an EAN or UPC is calculated from the others. Enter the number without it and the tool adds it; if it does not match, the tool tells you which one is right — so a typo shows up before it is printed.
- What happens to my data?
- Nothing. The barcode is created entirely in your browser; the number is never sent to a server or stored anywhere.
