Frequently asked questions

Does the unit price have to be on the tag?
Yes, for goods sold by weight, volume, length or area. Germany: next to the total price, "unambiguous, clearly recognisable and easily legible" (§ 4 PAngV), per 1 kg, 1 l, 1 m, 1 m² or 1 m³; per 100 g or 100 ml only for loose goods (§ 5 PAngV). Austria: per 1 kg, 1 l, 1 m, 1 m² or 1 m³ (§ 10a PrAG); per 100 g or 100 ml for example for sausage, cheese, chocolate and cosmetics, per piece for example for eggs and bread rolls, uniform per product group within one shop. Since 30 December 2025 a unit price on the shelf counts as easily legible when it is 4 mm high and the price 8 mm; if the price is larger, the unit price must be half its size (§ 4 (1a) PrAG). Switzerland: per l, kg, m, m² or m³ or a decimal part of it, so per 100 g as well (Art. 5 and 6 PBV); not required for example for goods sold by the piece and for 1, 2 or 5 kg or l and their decimal parts such as 500 g. The tool calculates the unit price from price and content (500 g at €3.99 → 1 kg = €7.98), leaves it out when it equals the price and sets it at half the size of the price on every tag. Small shops with counter service, farm shops and some product groups are exempt — if in doubt, ask your chamber of commerce.
What must a sale tag show?
In Germany, every announced price reduction must state the lowest total price of the 30 days before the reduction (§ 11 PAngV); individual discounts and perishable goods reduced because they expire soon are exempt if this is made clear. A reduction in percent must refer to that price (CJEU, judgment of 26 September 2024, C-330/23). Austria requires the same for reductions in amounts or percent: the previous lowest price of the last 30 days in the same sales channel (§ 9a PrAG). In Switzerland a comparison price ("statt") may only be shown if the goods were actually offered at that price — immediately before (then for at most half as long and no longer than two months) or for at least 30 consecutive days (then without a time limit, also for further reductions; Art. 16 PBV since 1 January 2025). That is why the field is called "Lowest 30-day price", or "Previous price" in Switzerland: only enter a price you really charged. The tag shows "Lowest price in the last 30 days: €4.99" or "was CHF 4.90", plus the reduction in percent — calculated from that price and rounded down, never larger than it is.
Which sizes and paper fit?
To cut from A4: shelf strip 90 × 39 mm for price rails with a 39 mm insert height (14 per sheet), A7 landscape 105 × 74 mm for small stands (4 per sheet, landscape) and A6 landscape 148 × 105 mm for sign holders and shop windows (2 per sheet). Plain paper or card as thick as your printer takes; cut along the crop marks outside the tags. Plus the five A4 label sheets from "Print labels" (Avery Zweckform 3474 and 3475, HERMA 4453, 4614, 4608 and 4606). Always print at the original size ("Actual size" or "100 %"), never "Fit to page". On labels under 30 mm high, shop name and logo are left out — the space belongs to the price.
Can I take over my list from Excel?
Yes. Select the rows in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets, copy them and paste them under "Paste from Excel" or straight into a "Product" field. Without a header row the order is product, price, content (amount and unit may be two columns), lowest 30-day price, copies; with a header row the tool recognises columns such as "Name", "Price", "Content" and "Unit" by their names. Numbers may be written "3,99", "3.99" or "1,410.50".
What happens to my data?
The list is read and the PDF is created in your browser; prices, products and logo are not sent to any server. Only when you are signed in does the list save itself with its settings and logo as a "Price tags" entry in your account (servers in Frankfurt), so you can change and reprint it later.
