Decision guide
Who benefits from shop automation — and who does not?
Shop automation pays off for retailers where the same manual steps come back every week: creating new products, updating prices and stock levels, importing data from the supplier. It does not pay off for shops with few products that hardly change — and not if an off-the-shelf app already solves the task completely.

Who benefits from shop automation?
- Retailers where the same manual steps come back every week: creating new products, updating prices and stock levels, importing data from the supplier.
- Businesses where the shop runs on the side and there is no time for it.
- Small shops too — if every single product takes a lot of work.
An example: a lot of work per product
SAMIS GmbH sells hats in its own online shop. With the photo box that was quoted, it would have been an estimated two hours per product.
Today four phone photos are enough, and about ten minutes later the product is ready for the shop. Both times are estimates, not timed. More in the case study SAMIS GmbH.
Who does not benefit?
- Shops with few products that hardly change.
- If a task only comes up a few times a year.
- If the process itself is not yet settled. Then: first tidy up, then automate.
- If an off-the-shelf app already solves the task completely.
How do you know it is time?
- New goods are in the warehouse but not yet in the shop.
- Prices or stock levels in the shop are no longer correct.
- The same data is typed in two or three times.
- Product maintenance is caught up on in the evening or at the weekend.
- The shop could sell more, but nobody gets round to it.
What should you prepare before the initial consultation?
AlpenApps from Feldkirch in Vorarlberg looks at your process in the initial consultation. The conversation brings the most if you bring this along:
- The one task that costs the most time.
- One or two real examples of it — a supplier list, a typical product.
- A rough estimate of how many hours per week go into it.
- Which shop system and which inventory management you use.
Frequently asked questions
Good to know
- What does it cost?
- That depends on the scope. In the initial consultation we show you what it brings you. The consultation itself is free.
- Do I stay in control, or does something change without my knowledge?
- You stay in control. Every change is proposed to you. Only what you have approved is applied.
