Frequently asked questions
- Why WebP?
- WebP is the image format every current browser can read, and at the same quality it is about a third smaller than JPG. Smaller images mean faster product pages — and load time is one of the things Google and your customers judge alike.
- Does the image lose quality?
- Resizing removes pixels that would never be visible on screen anyway; at quality 90 the difference from the original cannot be seen with the naked eye. Your original stays unchanged on your device — the tool creates a new file.
- What happens to my data?
- Nothing leaves the browser. Resizing and converting happen on your device; no image is uploaded or stored. The metadata of the original (camera, location) is not carried over either.
- What size does a shop product image need?
- 2000 pixels on the long edge is enough for zoom views in Shopify, WooCommerce and on marketplaces. 1600 pixels are enough for images in body text, 800 for thumbnails and categories. More only makes the file bigger, not the image sharper.
