Frequently asked questions

How long can a Google title be?
Google shows about 580 pixels of title width in the search result — depending on the letters, that is roughly 55 to 65 characters. Anything beyond is cut off with "…". Rule of thumb: up to 60 characters, the most important part first.
Does Google count characters or pixels?
Pixels. A title made of narrow letters (i, l, t) fits more than one made of wide letters (m, w, W). The 60 characters here are therefore a guideline, not a law — if you are close to the limit, check with a search result preview.
What happens to my text?
Nothing. Counting happens entirely in your browser; the text is never sent to a server. So that an accidental reload deletes nothing, the browser remembers the text for this tab only — once you close it, it is gone.
Why is my Amazon title too long?
Amazon allows 200 characters but recommends considerably shorter titles and rejects titles in all capitals or with promotional phrases. Name the brand, product, most important feature and size — the rest belongs in the bullet points.
